About My Topic ( Blog 13 )

My topic is about homelessness. The major part is why people end up homelessness and also about what people can do to help themselves. This issue interests me because homelessness is a really big issue in Texas. Also in the city of Austin. This also interests me because there are teenage girls that are my age that are homeless.I want people to learn about homelessness and about how you can end up homeless because I think its an important topic for people to search through and look at because its a big problem and I don't believe it should get any bigger. Also if people don't understand the problem they might end up the way others are. Also because there are already people on the streets and wealthy or average people need to know that its important that we help people.This issue needs to be addressed because it is important to our community that people are safe. Also because I think people deserve to have a home over there head. Most of the people that are on the streets are veterans that served in protecting the United States and they don't have a home.Really I believe people should help them out because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be the way we are . It also needs to be addressed because it is a big problem . Not only here but everywhere.

March Of The Penguins

1. The challenges that they overcome are hunger because they only have certain times where they go out to sea and eat. They also overcome predators because they go out to sea to eat but, while there eating they have to constantly watch there backs for their enemies. Also Dying and weather.
2. It challenges it because it is in Antarctica where its super cold which affects their livelihood for there young as well.
3. They need to have fur in order to survive the harsh winters. They also need to know how to swim so they can find fish for food and also so they can swim away from predators at any time.
4. It is because when there is no sunlight it gets colder which brings snow storm and it affects the penguins children and also the penguins themselves.
5. It is important because if it is not frozen solid a penguin can easily break through the ice and fall. It is also important because there are a lot of penguins which means a lot of weight which makes it obvious that the ground must be frozen solid.Climate change could negatively impact the ritual because then the penguins will not be able to mate the way they are supposed to.By saying that it automatically states that they are not following the ritual.

What did you learn from your choice of games and genres to review?I learned that there are certain game ideas and certain game genres that do not mix into a good learning combination. A lot of he games that were on the wiki were educational games but also a lot of them were games that didn't teach anything at all. I learned that there are ways you can make a game educational but these game designers didn't do it. Although they didn't do it there games , their games were still very good.Name any game features that stood out to you, either because they were interesting or because they could be improved.I think that in one of the games I saw it could be improved by having use the text box instead of writing without the text box. Also they should of been more descriptive of there instructions.Write down any questions you have about the game or genre you chose. Sports and racing games are games where you race people in cars and also sports games are where you play a sport but its on the computer. For these types of games you need fast reflexes and good computer skills.

There social issue that I learned today was that there are oils that spill inside the ocean from race cars. It also tells facts about how bad it is.

This game taught that cars are an action to social issues. They are a social issue because they leak oil onto the streets that they race on which then washes away to the ocean when it rains. The ocean is already bad because of global warming and now cars are social issues to.

The games I liked the best were neon rider. I liked this game the best because it was a racing game and it had great detail and so much color.

What happens in this game is that you have to pass each level in order to move to the next, you also have to change colors due to the color of the road if not you fall.

Puzzles and Mazes are games that you have to think about what the concept is. During these games they may be timed or have an end point that they have to meet before the game ends. While playing these games it usually involves critical thinking and fast reflexes.

The game that taught me the most is Bubble Bot. It taught me that you have to have fast reflexes because you never never know what might pop out.

In this genre there aren't any social issue topics within the games . So I cant really say that there is a game that taught me the best social issue.

The game that I liked the best is the was the Robot Maze game, I liked it because it was a really awesome game to play and it taught me fast reflexes. It also taught me how to use different strategies for different issues.

What happens in these games is that you have to find your way out of certain things. Also you have to solve different problems using critical thinking and the tools on the computer that they give you. Although they are all critical thinking skills none of the games that were on the wiki gave any information about a social issue or problem within out communities.

Also in other games you are in a maze and you have to find different tools and a key to get out. In these games there is somewhere or something you need to get in order to win . Adventure Games : An adventure game is a game where you don't have to have fast reflexes , its more of a thinking game where you have to figure out what you are going to do to get to the next level.

The game that taught me the most educational value is Super Chick sisters. This game taught me the most about a social issue is because it taught me about how McDonalds and other food places abuse chickens.

The game I liked best was ATV Safety .

What happens in this game is that you are supposed to find objects and use them to kill certain monsters. You are supposed to leave to different places where you kill the monsters and unlock other places.

The game that taught me a new educational skill is the Brain Pop education. The reason this one taught me the most is because it taught me about bacteria and how it effects you. It also taught me how you can prevent bacteria from being in different places.

Gamers Solve Scientific Problems Blog 5

How did gamers use the computer game Foldit to solve the protein folding mystery?
They used the computer to solve puzzles which unlocked different things that helped find this Foldit. They were told to solve the puzzles even though they have no background within this subject.
Who can particpate in this problem solving and be a player in Foldit?
Anyone with no background in biochemistry can solve these puzzles. I think that they chose people with no background because if people with background research on this would be able to find this Foldit within a short amount of time.
What can critical thinking do for science?

In science critical thinking can be very very helpful because you might need to find something out and we cant use any type of resource. Also it would be helpful with the Stars test.
If you could solve a mystery through gaming for any kind of disease or illness in the world, what would it be?

If I could design a game to solve a mystery for a disease or illness it would be for cancer. The reason why is because Cancer is a big issue within our community and country as well. I would also do a mystery game for diabetes . Although there is something that makes it better there is still not a really great and accurate cure for it. I would do this because it effects a lot of people individually and also family wise.

Mini Game 9/23/11 Blog 4

Was it hard to make your mini game? What was the best part of this topic? The worst part?The only hard thing about making the mini game is the code. The codes are very confusing. Although I had to go back like five different times to correct my code I corrected my codes and the game worked. The best part of this topic with me is that the bunny loses points whenever the wolf hits it. The best thing about making the game is the part where you are converting the object to a Symbol. Also adding the instance name and properties. The worst part was again with the coding. Although its hard I still got it. the coding was very confusing it was hard to figure out . I went back to my teachers code and also other students code and thats how I got the code to work. Although it took a while to finish it at least we still got it and it works.

How old were you on September 11,2001?

I was 3 when September 11,2001 happened.

When did you first learn about the attacks and who explained the attacks to you?

I first learned about the attacks when I was around ten. I was watching t.v in my room and it was the History channel , I asked my mom what 9/11 was and she explained to me that the world trade centers had been attacked. the next day I learned about it more in school.

What kind of impact did these attacks have on your life or your parents life?

These attacks made a big impact on my grandmother . It was effective because one of her friends was in New York at this time. It also effected my mom because ever since then my mom has been protective , My grandmother told me this.

What was he issue with this game?

The issue was that it was very poorly thought out and it offended a lot of people that were victims of 9/11.

How do you feel about it ?

I feel that it is very sad that someone would make a game out of it when a lot of people died because of that attack.

What is the problem with portraying such an awful violent event through a video game?

The problem is that it is saddening that so many people died and that in the game there's no possible way that you can win , It is a very rude , wrong and so many other things.

How can you make sure that your web games to tell the whole story or teach a lesson in a honorable way?

I think we should do it by not promoting violence and by promoting helpful things.

"Danger of a Single Story"

1. What does it mean to have a "Single Story" a place or community? To have a "Single Story" is to have an opinion or thought about an area, without knowing all there is to know about this area. Like saying a biased opinion about the place.Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?A story that I once heard about my community, which is East Austin. The story I heard I knew was a stereotype. I knew it was a stereotype because the person that told me this story said that East Austin was full of people who don't have jobs and are poor also that all the teens are gang bangers. What was missing is that the girl was being dumb because she didn't think that she lived in East Austin. Also because not everyone in East Austin is poor and not all teens are gang bangers.Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community? A single story about another place is in the North side of Austin there's nothing but white people and people who are rich and are stuck up. I learned this story because my aunt told me it and when I was little my grandfather had a lot of money and he lived in the North. I could find out more about this community by going and visiting more.How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community? I think a game can make people or help people experience it as it is . It should't be bias or have any stereotypes in it. I think someone from that point of view should make that game.

1 Cyberbuylling 2011

This is my first blog post of the 2011-2012 school year.

What is cyberbullying ? Cyberbulling is when someone from an online website harasses you or poses as a person that will harass you.

What are the different types of cyberbullying ? The different types of cyberbullying are impersonating m gossiping and threat.

What should you do if you are being cyberbullying? If you are being cyberbullied you should tell a trusted adult or friend. If you choose a friend to tell the friend will have to report it to an adult.

How does the main character feel about using "clicksters" in the beginning of the film? In the beginning of the film Taylor ( The main character ) didn't really like Clicksters . She didnt want to use it and also she couldn't because she had no way to.

What is her family situation? Taylor's family situation I think also affects her a little. Her parents are divorced and she told her father she never wanted to see him again. Taylor has a little brother. Her realationship with her mother and brother is good.

What types of friendships does she have? She has good friendships that are good . Then Taylor and one of her friends start having issues.

When does the bullying start? To me the bullying start in the beginning because one ,of the bullies Lindsay starts to verbally bully Taylor. Then the cyberbullying starts when Taylor joins the online website Clicksters.

What is the result of cyberbullying that Taylor experiences?

The experiences that she takes in is by trying to commint suicide. Taylor tried to commit suicide because of the cyberbullying gong on--the website clicksters.

What type of cyberbullying does Taylor experience?

She experiences people calling her outside of her name and posting bad things on her profile and spreading rumors. She also experienced her "Bestfriend" impersonating a person.

What would you do if you were in Taylor's shoes? I would've of been really mad but I wouldn't had tried to kill myself. First I would've printed out everything that has been happening on the site and then I would've deleted it.

How does Taylor react to the mean comments people keep posting about her?

In reaction to everything Taylor trys to commit suicide.

Does she ever try to stop people from passing insults ? What could she have done differently?

She does not she just looks and then leaves . I think she could've erased the profile and not get on anymore. She also could've printed everything and contacted police and adults.

How do you think Taylor felt about her friends betraying her?

I think she felt sad and mad because it was her best friend who had did that to her. I would've been very mad too. Although she was mad she still accepted Samantha's apology.

What kind of change do you see Taylor experiance things from the film?

I see her changing by when she goes to the counseling classes that her mother put her in. I also see her change when she finds out that her friend was impersonating James. Also when she continues to learn other peoples problems are the same as hers she tells her mom and other people that she wants to raise awareness about cyberbullying and what people/ teens are going through.

Nintendo

Cool! The new Nintendo 3DS is out already. I have heard so many great things about it. Like one...I heard from the video that the top screen is 10x bigger then the Nintendo DS. Here is some research on it. First the game was just released yesterday March 27,2011. The gaming device went on sale in the U.S for 250$. This game lets users play 3D games without using special glasses. It also takes 3D photos ,isnt that AWESOME! This summer the 3DS will be able to play 3D movies from Netflix on its one of its screens. The 3DS has 2 camers in the back of the game. Another good thing about this game is that the game is all to yourself you can say, do and think what you want because there is nobody to tell you anything and also you dont have to bve diturbed by anyone. The game has "okay" chargeing. It has 3.5 hours of charge. So if your a game adict you might want to take a charger everywhere you go. Well theres one little catch to the game. You have to be over 7 years old. Well thats no problem to us Middle Schoolers. Here is a picture of the game->

Gaming

At the end of the year we will have a game to present. I would try to sell my game to people. That would be so cool if someone were to buy it.I would love to buy someone elses game as well. If it was good. Well what celebrity would I have on my game. I would have Alicia Keys. I would have her on my game because she is such an inspiration to me because she is really nice. I also love her because she is a really great singer. Well another person I would have is Rihanna. She is a really good singer too. The other reason I would put tese two celebritys is because I want to do a game on teen dating violence and because of what happened to Rihanna but thats not it.Its just because I really like these two people .I would advertise my game on the tv,internet,commercials and everywhere possible that someone can buy it. Although I would be careful because you never know whos out there.

Japan

I think that it is a terrible thing that Japan was hit by the tsunami. I really feel bad for the children and parents that went through this and that aslo lost loved ones. I believe that it is a good thing that the school is helping raise money to send because a lot of people dont have food,clothes or shelter. If I were to do something to help Japan I would ask the school to help raise money for Japan. I would also have a fundraiser or a basket sell to help.With the money that we raise I would buy clothing and food to send to Japan.Then with the rest of the money I would send it to Japan so that they will have money to build houses. I would also send money to them to help make the things that they need and also to rebuild the stores. I would like to help the people in Japan because without them most of us wouldnt have our computers,cell phones, or even iPods. We all know how much we love those things.

I think it is a really really bad thing that the eartquake as well as the Tsunami hit Japan.I also feel bad for the people in California and Hawii because they also got hit by the Tsunami .Even though it wasnt as ad it still matters.Here is a picture of the tsunami.-->. This handheld game is really cool to me because it is touch screen most of all and also because its another device that can keep you occupied whenever you are bored.I know I get bored all the time so I would buy it. Although there are some bad things about the video game devices.This device can lead to more children skipping school and have electronic devices in school. Mad Hot Ballroom

What Is "Teamwork" mean to you?To me teamwork is where you go with a group of people and work on something together.Also it means you don't argue,fight or go against eachother.This film follows P.S 112,P.S 150 and P.S 115 (P.S stands for Public School).

How do you see these students trying to work together?I see that they are trying to work together by telling eachother there faults.Also they work together by not fooling around.They stay focused.They also help eachother on what steps to do and everything else.The danceing brings them together as friends and even closer friends which makes them work better.I think that the main message was to change the childs life.The reason that its this main message was because in the movie they pointed out some of the students and told how they were on the wrong path.Then it showed how they succeded in doing something that they liked.Some of the situsations are that if the parents at home dont care why should you.Also thats why people should find something that they love and be able to do that activity to succeed.How important was teamwork for these students?Teamwork was imoirtant for these students because they all needed a partner and had to get used to being together and helping eachother out.I think the main message is that you need to work together for everything.Also that if you find something that you love it will help you find out what your good at and you can succeed in life.I will work together with my teammates in globaloria by helping everyone in flash.

Math Video Game

The game that I played was called Math Man.In this game we learn our adding and subtracting.It may not seem so important because we are seventh graders but, it really is important to know the basics.One day you might need to add or subtract to figure something out and those will be the only things that you can use to find the answer that you need.In this game the object is to look at the equation on the top of the spaceship then find the answer on the bottom.But they give you like five different answers and you have to choose the correct one.Also you have to do it before the spaceships get on top of you.If the spaceships get on top of you-you will lose some life or get sick and when the heart on the bottom runs out of the color red you will die and the game will end.This game is helpful because you learn even more ways to add and subtract.Also because it is good refreshment to adding and subtracting because maybe and I'm not saying it is guaranteed to happen but some people might forget the easiest things like adding and subtracting because its not going anywhere you have to use it your whole life.Well also another thing is that you just learn more and more.

Animal Cruelty

On these games they talked about and worried about how animals are being used in their body parts.On these games they talked about how McDonalds does not use chicken.This game is played by trying to save the princess and the animals.The social issue is that animals are being killed for there meat and that is not good.The game tought about the issue is that they were teaching on how to not kill animals and how McDonalds does it and all that.The second game we played is the J-Lo game.In this game you had to get away from J-Lo and save the animals and inform the workers on what they are working for.They tought the issue by telling us facts about different animals during breaks.Also by including a video.I didnt get to play the last one because it wasnt loading the right way.

Wizard

On January 31 we finished watching "The Wizard".Now I will answer the questions stated below and give you a brief summary.At the beginning of the movie, Jimmy is walking down the highway. Where is he going?-He wants to go to California.What is the problem that the little boy, Jimmy, has?-He is tramatized by his twin sisters death.Jimmy likes to stack and build things. How does this relate to video games?-I dont think that it relates to any games I think its just that he would like to forget about his sister.Also it probably does relate to games because video games have a lot of buildings. Playing video games seems to help Jimmy feel better. Why do you think this is?-I think maybe it is because his sister liked video games.Or maybe its just because it relaxes him.What makes him such an awesome video game player?-Well, I surely do not know what makes him a great video game player.I think he just does it and works so hard on it to forget about his sister.What kinds of games do you see being played? Have you ever played any games like this before?-The video games that I saw were Mario Bros. and also Arcade Games,Double Dragon and Street Fighter.Yes,I have played some of these games before.I have played the Mario Brothers before when I was younger. How many different game systems do you see in the film?-In this film I only seen about two video game systems.I think its because video games had just been introduced.What did you think about the Power Glove?-I really liked the Power Glove but I dont think that I would be able to use it.The reason I dont think I would be able to use it because it is really difficult to have it on your hand and have to press buttons with the other hand.So thats why I dont think I would be able to do it.

The Wizard
I really like this movie because it ties in to video games.Video games is what we are talking about in class.Also we are about to make video games.Well I really like this movie also because it has a sad part and a good part to it.I remember when I was little I would play the mario brothers game.Also the Arcade Games.Now those things are very expensive.People collect them and put them in their house.Also there was a lot of compotition.What I didnt like about the movie was that they had two bad people(Lucas and the guy looking for Jimmy Woods).I also liked this movie because they showed emotion and also what had happened to the little girl (Jimmy's twin).It was sad.Well I really hope that we continue to watch movies like this one.

What I think about the Google Science Fair is that I think it is a great idea because they have never had something like this. Also it is good to start with new things to make good things come. Something else they have is a good amount of money for GREAT Scholarships!Also they have great prizes. I actually don't see myself entering this contest. The reason I don't see myself in this contest is because I am really bad at science. I would probably enter it but, I don't "see" myself entering. I do hope that one of my classmates does enter but, I would not enter. Even though I am not going to be entering I would do a project that involves either volcanoes or engineering.I would focus on engineering.I would build something that would help someone have energy.
